One of the most powerful events that often occurs from an Integrative Breathwork™ experience is accessing the realm of the unconscious. But, because the unconscious mind speaks to the ego-mind in the universal language of symbol, it becomes difficult to interpret the non-ordinary event of breathwork in ordinary language. Therefore, a Mandala, the Sanskrit word for "circle," is drawn on art paper to extract the essence of the breathwork experience.

Although artwork has been used to capture the values of different cultures since the dawn of humankind, mandala drawing gained notoriety in the 1970's as a therapeutic tool in various experiential dynamics of mental health.

After completing a breathwork experience, the participant is provided with art paper and coloring supplies to recreate the event into a personal representation of the experience. As the image unfolds, it literally becomes a symbolic message from one's unconscious–snapshot from the soul!

The magic of the mandala is first experienced when the items for coloring makes contact with the circle on the paper. This is not a passive experience, but a discipline that requires one to "let go" of all judgments around personal art skills, and literally plunge into the world of archetypes–the "collective unconscious"–where the interpretations and teachings of what has been explicated on paper is endless.

Take some time to view the mandala's on this page, and read the poetry that offers an interpretation of each. If any of the drawings or poetry seem to resonate with your energy, allow your creative imagination to connect with whatever is being stirred. Words and/or images may pop out. Give yourself permission to engage the art work or poetry in any way you feel so inspired – writing poems, drawing symbols, journaling, whatever is seeking expression. Just simply allow it to reveal itself.

If there are interpretations that you feel compelled to share with me, please don't hesitate. Drop me a line or two. If you are "seasoned" in this work, and have recently completed a breathwork session, it is an effective way to stay connected with your experience. Regardless, it would be wonderful to hear, read, or see your thoughts.
