We can't rely on
intellect alone to get us over a painful experience because the memories
may be stucknot in the mind, butin the physical body. We heal
by letting the body do its work in conjunction with Spirit, when the ego's
intellect drops its tendency to be judgmental, and steps aside. The
body knows how to heal itself when we get out of its way.
One method of doing this is a process called "Integrative Breathwork," a deep meditative inner journey set to music. By opening the psyche, which knows what each particular person needs, breathwork offers an accelerated path to healing. In a typical breathwork session, the body is first put into a light trance state, while the ego brain is allowed to "melt" through deep relaxation and guided imagery. Then wordless music begins and continues for about two hours. The sounds progress from deep cultural drumming and chanting into melodies that bring up story lines from the subconscious. Later on, the music becomes emotionally or romantically evocative to open the heart. This is followed by "high" spiritual music, which is an uplifting effect, and can even activate a full blown mystical experience. Finally, light-hearted and grounded "coming out" music provides the "breather" with a gentle return to everyday reality. These sessions are free associational journeys that activate the psyche and bring into conscious awareness any aspects of the past that must be remembered to be healed. And further, they let us imagine aspects of the future, as the human imaginationone of our most valuable soul powersacts as a bridge between the conscious and unconscious minds, between our past and future lives. This imaginative cognition, together with inspiration and intuition, is a power of the Higher Mind. The science of vibration is essential to this healing process of breathwork, since the musical frequencies carry us along "memory lane," matching the blocked memories we need to access. In a non-ordinary state, the body spontaneously puts us into the physical positions necessary to recreate whatever it is we need in order to heal. The body knows; the soul knows. Only the intellect can lie. [excerpts from RISING TO THE CALL, pg. 53-54] |
